Program Note:
Shadow dramatizes the inner life of an autistic child name Eli. I illustrated a playful day I spent with him in five translucent segments.
Ritornello I, Eli wakes up from his nap, somewhat puzzled. Movement 1 records Eli chasing a fly. Eli draws a picture in Ritornello II. Movement 2 sketches Eli when he plays at the playground. The last movement is a close portrait of the young boy’s music debut.
